Mentoring support to ex-prisoners – Sixtyone

Funding from the Denman Trust to Sixty-One has enabled them to increase the amount of mentoring support they provide to ex-prisoners, as well as supporting other community based rehabilitative activity. By inspiring, enabling and supporting the local community to provide the relational and practical support ex-prisoners need, they have been able to reduce crime and make society a better, safer and more informed place.

Funding has been used to train, match and support mentees and mentors, as well as helping their other partnership work. This includes three community based hubs providing a regular meeting space for ex-prisoners and enabling a local businessman deliver his MBA Empowerment course in HMP Bristol, and subsequently, in thirty other prisons through prison TV.

Enabling and supporting the local community to provide this rehabilitative support placed Sixtyone in a strong position when the pandemic struck. In the first 12 weeks after the first lockdown they increased the level of support given to our mentees by 112%.
